Delivering the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree: “The Crown Jewel of a Driving Career”
Larry Spiekermeier, an Owner-Operator for Whitewood Transport, has safely traveled more than 3.5- million miles during his 50-year career in trucking.
In 2017, Larry was selected by Whitewood to make the 3,460-mile journey from the Kootenai National Forest in his home state of Montana to our nation’s capital to deliver the U.S. Capitol Christmas Christmas Tree to Washington, D.C.
In an interview on Fox & Friends on Fox News, Larry described his journey as “the crown jewel of a driving career.”
While speaking with Roll Call, Larry discussed the response he received while making stops along the way so community members could gather to see “The People’s Tree.” Larry said, “It’s unbelievable. The response we get at every town we go to has just been overwhelming…The amount of people that come to see it, it makes you feel proud that you’re able to do something like this for the people.”
Larry reflected on his experience further in an op-ed in Fox News. He said, “As I reach Washington and anticipate the lights that will shine from the grand holiday tree onto the lawn of the U.S. Capitol, I am reminded of the true value that trucking provides to America as well as the unique and special opportunities it provides.”
