Delivering the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree: “The Neatest Thing I’ve Ever Hauled”
Butch Hanna has been driving for 41 years, including 17 with Apex Transportation, and has more than 105,000 hours of experience. Butch has received numerous safety awards during his career, including Short Haul Driver of the month in October 2019.
Butch was one of the two drivers who delivered the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree in 2020. The tree came from the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forests in his home state of Colorado.
Along the way, Butch made stops in Colorado communities so community members could gather to see “The People’s Tree.” During a stop in Grand Junction, Colorado, while discussing his journey with The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, Butch said, It’s been a blast. It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve enjoyed it.” While at another stop, Butch told 9 News in Denver, that the special delivery was “an honor.” Butch said, “I’ve drove a truck for 41 years and this is probably the neatest thing I’ve ever hauled.”
