I’ve been around large industrial equipment, including trucking equipment since I was very small, and I’ve always loved learning new things. I’ve been working for Werner for 14 years where I was first hired as a third-shift truck mechanic, and I have been promoted several times throughout the years to my current position as a fleet maintenance mechanic.
The job provides skills that you can use elsewhere, especially customer service skills. At Werner, we stay focused on maintaining a driver-friendly environment. It’s our goal that every driver has the best possible experience. We also have a great support group at Werner, from all levels and locations, that makes work very enjoyable.
The skills you learn you can apply to other daily work functions, even after a job as a mechanic. These are skills that follow you around for the rest of your life.
My toddler son follows me around. Who knows, maybe he will follow my footsteps in trucking!
I like to be as thorough as possible, more than the average guy. We have more inspections; checks lists and paperwork — all to make sure the vehicles are safe as possible. I always try to give 100% to everything I do.
