I enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2004, serving for four years in transportation. This experience laid the groundwork for my career in the transportation industry after my service ended. The discipline, leadership skills, and sense of duty instilled during my military service provided a solid foundation for my transition into the dynamic field of transportation.
Leveraging my organizational skills, I streamlined operations, orchestrating the growth of Chalk from 15 trucks to 150 within a year and a half. This accomplishment was a testament to the leadership qualities honed during my time in the Marines, which guided my strategic decisions in fostering the company’s development.
As a leader, I believe in giving credit to my team while emphasizing the significance of continuous learning. I actively seek mentorship and aim to learn something new every day to avoid falling into a routine. The leadership skills acquired in the Marines, such as adaptability and effective communication, play a pivotal role in my current role, where a dynamic and strategic approach is crucial for success.
The San Angelo department had to deliver an unprecedented amount of sand with a limited number of trucks, some stationed at significant distances from the mines. As a planner the initial situation was overwhelming, but I approached it systematically. I leaned heavily on open communication with field personnel to gather essential information. We successfully executed a record-setting day with minimal trucks, showcasing the importance of quick thinking and prioritizing customer needs.
