Daniel Abshire

AND HIS FATHER JIM

Drivers
Second Generation

  • GENERATIONS

While growing up, trucking was all I ever wanted to do. My dad, Jim, was the second driver ever hired by Pilot Company and drove for over 40 years. I followed in his footsteps, and I’ve been driving for Pilot for over 40 years too. My cousin and his wife are also truck drivers and worked for Pilot in Tennessee. We are a “Pilot family!”

  • WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT TRUCKING?

I like everything about it. I like the independence of the job: you’re on your own. My office is in that cab. I also like the ability to travel and see new places. I enjoy the scenery on the drive and getting to watch the sunrise from behind the wheel.

  • HOW IMPORTANT IS SAFETY FOR YOU WHILE ON THE ROAD?

Safety is a top priority. I was lucky to have learned from the best. I follow the advice my dad gave me when I became a driver: No sudden movements and leave yourself enough space.
