  • WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT DRIVING?

The comradery. 90% of the time, as a local driver, when you get your work for the day, you’ve been there before, and you know the people. Even if you don’t know the names, you get to know the team of people and you look forward to doing a good job and treat them well as customers. It’s just a great feeling to be treated well and to treat people well.

  • WHAT WAS A SPECIAL MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER?

There was a moment ten years ago that has stayed with me. I came to a store in Crozet, VA at about one in the morning. It was dark and cold; only about 5 degrees. An older gentleman was walking around with just a t-shirt on and approached me and said he didn’t know where he was. I told him I would take care of him. I got a sheet out of the truck and wrapped it around him. Since no one else was around, I called the police and waited. It turned out that there was a nursing home nearby, and he had walked out and was totally confused. Who knows what may have happened if he just laid down. It touched me that someone was that vulnerable, and I could help. This was a case of being at the right place at the right time, and the stars aligned that day.

  • WHAT WOULD YOU TELL THE NEXT GENERATION OF JOB SEEKERS?

I would really encourage the younger generation to look at the industry because there are so many opportunities. You can provide a great living for your family, and with most of the trucking jobs, the benefits are good.

  • WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR DRIVER TRAINING TIPS?

I take pride in training. I always try to be patient and help people. My favorite expression I say to drivers is “to measure twice and cut once. Always double check, then perform.” It can save you a lot of problems.
