Houston Lead Driver
Pilot Flying J
I had worked in customer service in food catering and was ready for a new challenge. I saw an advertisement for a truck driving company and applied for the job. I wanted to learn something new. I was an Over the Road (OTR) driver for a while, and now I drive locally in Houston. It will be six years in September 2023 that I have been driving with the last three years as a local driver. I am proud to have been promoted to the Lead Driver in Houston for Pilot Flying J where I oversee seven trucks.
I like that my office is inside my truck! I can take it anywhere or go anywhere. I enjoy the scenery. I like how every day is different.
When I was driving OTR in Kansas through a small town, a middle-America type of place, with one main strip through the town, I saw an elementary school. All the boys were excited to see me driving my truck. Then, a little girl saw me. Her teacher pointed me out as a woman driver, and her little face had an expression like, “wow!” She got so excited and was beaming. I was so happy to see this. It was a really cool moment for me.
Everyone is quick to help each other out, from questions on equipment to safety advice. We are always there for each other. I also love going to new places and meeting new people.
